Sterling silver
- Put your jewelry on last, after lotion, perfume and hairspray.
- Take it off before showering, swimming, the gym and cleaning.
- Store each piece dry, in a pouch or a closed box, away from humid bathrooms.
- When silver darkens, rub it gently with a silver polishing cloth. Avoid dips on pieces with enamel, pearls or stones.
Gold plated sterling silver
Treat plating gently: no polishing cloths with abrasives, no chemicals. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing. Plating wears faster on rings and bracelets that rub against surfaces.
Pearls and enamel
Pearls and enamel do not like water, perfume or heat. Wipe them with a soft cloth and store them flat.
Menorahs
- Use candles that fit the cups snugly; never leave lit candles unattended.
- Place the menorah on a heat-safe tray, away from curtains.
- Remove wax once it cools: chill the menorah briefly, then lift the wax out. Wipe enamel with a soft damp cloth; do not scrub.
